- Ordinance 17.01 AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO WATERCRAFT AND WATER REGULATIONS IN THE TOWN OF CLOVERLAND, V!LAS COUNTY, WISCONSIN The electors of the Town of Cloverland, at the annual meeting, in the interest of Public Safety, Health, Peace, Serenity and Protection of Wildlife, do ordain the following: STATUTES ADOPTED BY REFERENCE SECTION 1 - Section 30.50 through 30.71 of the Wisconsin Statutes are adopted by reference and regulate the operation and control of all watercraft on lakes and public waters in the Town of Cloverland, Vilas County, Wisconsin. SECTION 2 - SPEED RESTRICTIONS No person shall operate a watercraft on the lakes and public waters in the Town of Cloverland except in compliance with Wisconsin Statutes and Administrative code as follows: (a) In open waters, a person shall operate a watercraft at a speed which is reasonable and cautious. SECTION 3 - PROHIBITED OPERATION (a) No person shall operate a watercraft while under the influence of an intoxicant or controlled substance. (b) No person shall operate a watercraft repeatedly in a circuitous course around any other watercraft or around any person. who is swimming, if such circuitous course is within 200 feet of such swimmer or watercraft. c) A watercraft shall be operated at a "slow-no-wake" speed between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 900 A.M. local time. d) No person under the age of 10 years way operate a motor driven watercraft. SECTION 4 - WATER SKIING No person shall operate a motor driven watercraft towing a person on water skis, aquaplane or similar device, nor shall any person engage in water skiing or aquaplaning except between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. local time. (a) Neither towing watercraft nor rider shall approach any shore or dock closer than 200 feet, further - neither towing watercraft nor rider shall approach any shore or dock closer than 200 feet except starting out from and returning to a landing which must be from the lake shores only. (b) We adopt the DNR Statute 30.635 of "no water skiing on lakes of less than 50 acres." SECTION - 5 PENALTIES Any person found guilty of violating any provisions of this ordinance or of the sections of the Wisconsin Statutes adopted herein by reference, shall a forfeiture of not more than $50.00 for the first offense, and not exceeding $100.00 for each subsequent offense committed within one year, and in default of the payment of such forfeiture, such person shall be committed to the county jail for Vilas County, Wisconsin, until such forfeiture has been paid but not exceeding thirty days. SECTION - 6 REGULAT IONS This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and after passage and publication, and shall be enforced by any duly authorized officer of the Town of Cloverland, Vilas County, Wisconsin. SECTION - 7 SEVERABILITY The several terms and provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed severable and if any of these provisions, or the application thereof, to any person or circumstances are held to be invalid, the remainder of the ordinance and the application of such provisions to other persons or circumstances shall remain in full force and effect. ADOPTION The foregoing ordinance was adopted by the electors of the Town of Cloverland, Vilas County, Wisconsin, at the annual meeting held on the 7th day of April, 1976
