Animal Control - Ordinance 4.01

AUTHORITY: Unless otherwise noted in the ordinance, Chapter 174 and Chapter 95.21 of the Wisconsin State Statutes are adopted and incorporated by the Town of Cloverland and made part of this ordinance as if fully set forth herein.

LICENSING: All dogs kept or harbored in the Town must be licensed, with the license worn on the collar at all times. Fees are $8.00 for unaltered males and females and $3.00 for altered males and females. Licenses must be purchased by January 31 of the year in which the dogs become 5 months of age. The penalty for having no license is $10.00. Licenses may be obtained from the Town or County Treasurer or the shelter agent at the designated Animal Shelter. Out-of-town license reciprocity will be honored. No person shall be issued a license in the Town until the appropriate fee and application have been submitted to the Town Treasurer, County Treasurer, or shelter agent.

VACCINATION: Each dog owner shall have a dog inoculated with an approved Rabies vaccine by a veterinarian according to Wisconsin Statue 95.21(2).

KEEPING: Dogs shall not be allowed to run at large, i.e., to be present at any place other than the premises of the owner.Dogs shall not be considered to be running at large if on a leash and under control of a person physically capable of controlling it.

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER: The Town shall designate an animal control officer who will be compensated at a fee set by the Town Board.

Duties of the animal control officer: 1. Pick up dogs running at large-lost, strays, or abandoned. 2. Handle animal complaints including:

· Habitually barking and howling dogs · Dogs that habitually pursue vehicles or annoy hikers on the highway or roads in the town. · Dogs that annoy, pursue or attack animals (horses, livestock, other dogs, etc.) · Remain unlicensed after warning from the Town.
