TOWN OF CLOVERLAND RESOLUTION 2009 – 06
TO EXCEED LEVY LIMIT

Whereas, the State of Wisconsin has adopted levy limits on town, village, city and county levies for 2009 under Sec. 66.0602 of Wis. Statutes:

Whereas, Sec. 66.0602 of Wis. Statutes limits the local levy to a percentage increase to no more than the greater of (a) 3% of the last year local levy or (b) a percentage equal to the percentage change in equalized value due to new construction less improvements removed; which for the Town of Cloverland is 0.450 percentage:

Whereas, the Town Board of the Town of Cloverland, Vilas County believes it is in the town’s interest to exceed the state levy limit as described above by a greater percentage than 3%:

Whereas, the Town of Cloverland levy was $274,427 for the tax levy in 2008 (collected in 2009); and further whereas the state limit would limit the increase to $8232 for a total allowable town tax levy of $282,659 for 2009, collected in 2010.

Now Therefore the Town Board of the Town of Cloverland, Vilas County does hereby resolve and order as follows:

1.    The town board supports an increase in the town tax levy for 2009 (to be collected in 2010) that will exceed the state levy limit.

2.    The town board directs that the question of increasing the town tax levy for 2009 (to be collected in 2010) be 25.8%, which would increase the town levy by $70,802.16 over the past year’s levy, for a total tax levy of $345,229 shall be placed on the agenda for the special town meeting to be held on November 30, 2009.
